it is the story of a baby owl who didn't like dark but it is encouraged by his parents to explore more before he make up his mind to be a day bird。 The picture encourages and support the reader to understand the story and it relates to experiences of children。 It teaches children to try and experience things before they made up their mind。 Pictures' colour are warm and makes the night desirable and interesting that contradicts the owl's view。 it is the story of a baby owl who didn't like dark but it is encouraged by his parents to explore more before he make up his mind to be a day bird。 The picture encourages and support the reader to understand the story and it relates to experiences of children。 It teaches children to try and experience things before they made up their mind。 Pictures' colour are warm and makes the night desirable and interesting that contradicts the owl's view。 。。。more

O cărțulie care, cu siguranță va fi pe placul micilor cititori。 Pe alocuri amuzantă, dar și educativă。

The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark is one of those timeless children's books that is likely to be popular for many generations to come。 The simple story of the adorable baby barn own, Plop, and his long-suffering mummy and daddy is both highly engaging for children and highly identifiable for parents。The story tells of Plops adventures as he goes down into the world to find out about the dark。 It's a great book to use as an introduction to chapter books because each chapter follows the same form The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark is one of those timeless children's books that is likely to be popular for many generations to come。 The simple story of the adorable baby barn own, Plop, and his long-suffering mummy and daddy is both highly engaging for children and highly identifiable for parents。The story tells of Plops adventures as he goes down into the world to find out about the dark。 It's a great book to use as an introduction to chapter books because each chapter follows the same format。 There are lots of repeated phrases and events that children will love joining in with as they read the story。 At PlanBee, we created some lesson planning packs around this story, suitable for Year 3 children (7-8 years), although the book would also be enjoyed by both slightly older and younger children。 The complete set of lesson plans covers a range of activities including: Reading comprehension: https://planbee。com/products/the-owl-。。。Non-chronological reports: https://planbee。com/products/the-owl-。。。Diary entries: https://planbee。com/products/the-owl-。。。Narrative: https://planbee。com/products/the-owl-。。。Poetry: https://planbee。com/products/the-owl-。。。Writing lessons around such a lovely story was so much fun :-) 。。。more

I used this book whilst on my placement。 I really enjoyed the work I did on it, I felt as though the children were fond of the story and also had fun doing the cross curricular activities I had planned。 A super easy read。

I’m really enjoying reading childhood favourites at the moment - when I was little, we had this on tape and I listened to it until it wore out! Maureen Lipman’s narration is one of my favourite audiobook performances ever, and hearing it again made me feel so cosy and nostalgic。 I love Plop!

Sophie,
This was one of my favourite books as a young kid, and spawned an unhealthy collection of owl figurines。 Spotting a copy in an Oxfam bookshop, I had to pick it up on the pretences that my neice needed to read it。 She's less than one years old, and I read it straight away - don't judge me。 It's just as delightful as I remember, and Plop is still a hilarious name。 This was one of my favourite books as a young kid, and spawned an unhealthy collection of owl figurines。 Spotting a copy in an Oxfam bookshop, I had to pick it up on the pretences that my neice needed to read it。 She's less than one years old, and I read it straight away - don't judge me。 It's just as delightful as I remember, and Plop is still a hilarious name。 。。。more

I used to read this book to my children when they were younger and so, I recently purchased it to read to my 3 year old grandaughter。 I love this story, a real example of tough love in a world where children are often cosetted and protected from the much reported dangers beyond their front door。I particularly like the characterisations of Plop the baby owl and the way that the author's prose makes you want to take him in your arms and hold him tight。 In contrast parents are firm with him and hel I used to read this book to my children when they were younger and so, I recently purchased it to read to my 3 year old grandaughter。 I love this story, a real example of tough love in a world where children are often cosetted and protected from the much reported dangers beyond their front door。I particularly like the characterisations of Plop the baby owl and the way that the author's prose makes you want to take him in your arms and hold him tight。 In contrast parents are firm with him and help him to see that the fear he feels is stopping him from reaching out and seizing on the opportunities that lay before him。I also like that a community of characters help Plop to understand that the dark is not "nasty" or "scary" but "fun", "exciting", "wonderful" and "beautiful"。Essential reading for all children I think, and a lesson to all us adults that facing our own darkness can be liberating and life changing。 。。。more

Mike,
The main reason I read this book is because I was waiting for my new iPad to be delivered to the house because my old ipad needs replacing due to low battery life and I found this paperback book in my niece's room as she's on holiday at the moment with my sister and mum and I'm looking after the dog at her house。I recommend this book to anybody as it will make you appreciate the dark even more。This book also has talking animals in it and it reminded me a bit of the Dr。Dolittle movies with Eddie The main reason I read this book is because I was waiting for my new iPad to be delivered to the house because my old ipad needs replacing due to low battery life and I found this paperback book in my niece's room as she's on holiday at the moment with my sister and mum and I'm looking after the dog at her house。I recommend this book to anybody as it will make you appreciate the dark even more。This book also has talking animals in it and it reminded me a bit of the Dr。Dolittle movies with Eddie Murphy。 。。。more

A sweet book for young children, starring a barn owl who was affraid of the dark。 Nice illustrations and decent story-line, although I would expect the parents teaching the little owl to be less of a brat!Γλυκό βιβλίο για μικρά παιδιά, με ήρωα μία μικρή κουκουβάγια που φοβάται το σκοτάδι。 Ωραία εικονογράφηση και αξιοπρεπής ιστορία。Θα περίμενε κανείς οι γονείς της κουκουβάγιας να την μάθουν να είναι λιγότερο εγωκεντρική βέβαια。。。

My young children really enjoyed this story, each chapter is like a little mini adventure Plop has, it was easy to read a chapter a night at bedtime to them。

Reflections and lessons learned:Plop! Onomatopoeic for a baby bird and a low grade rude word for everyone to giggle at - surely up there in the list of most apt character names?! Very sweet。。。 and a good narration from Oddie (including the randomly unexpected but not out of place songs!)。 Lovely for all ages looking for a moment of fun with simple interactive parts before lunch and an afternoon nap - a book that I wished that we’d discovered earlier but glad that we have
